"In The Times of The Hanging Trees"

They lived in the times of The Hanging Trees;
Those innocent souls whose thoughts were seized;
and changed, transformed, to what others believed.
They lived in the times of the Hanging Trees.

Their eyes filled with fear when the lords came to call;
They knew of the others whose futures were stalled.
The outbursts, the violence, did the people not see?
That those who accused were the ones who should be;
Sentenced as demons, killers and fiends.
But they lived in the times of The Hanging Trees.

Their friends were deceitful, their hearts were betrayed;
By those that they cared for, and for whom they prayed;
That no harm would come through dark nights and bright days.
Yet no one dared save them or come to their aid.

They lived in the times of The Hanging Trees,
The most open hearted of all who believed;
That Spirit, Love, Gifts both seen and unseen;
Were to be respected, and held high in esteem.

But those who feared things they did not comprehend;
Were intent on destroying them, trying to send;
Their imagined devils into hiding and then;
To an end most cruel and harsh as could be,
By taking their lives on The Hanging Trees.

They died in the times of The Hanging Trees;
But what stilled their hearts soon came to be;
The history that lives, that saves, and that frees;
Those today to stand tall and believe as they please.
Their birthright, their faith, and their honor received;
From those who lived in the times;
of The Hanging Trees.
