A work commissioned by a facebook friend to memorialize and celebrate her father's life and the connection with family.
Free-flowing symbolism includes: *The Wolf to represent the Father figure, using the symbol of the family's Cherokee clan. His front paws lovingly wrap around one of the branches of the Tree.
*The Tree was requested by collector to represent their Kabbalah beliefs, and the most commonly used colors of the ten Sefirot are represented. It is embraced by the glowing heart-shaped light to represent Love.
*The large 7-pointed Cherokee star is highlighted in the sky, and the three smaller stars beside it (requested) symbolize the three wars/battles fought by the father.
*As explained by the collector, her father's beliefs considering the afterlife were of Valhalla. A popular symbol for Valhalla is three intertwined triangles - the mountains on the top right are a representation of Valhalla.
*As the Sacred Fire is an enduring and intrinsic part of Cherokee history since before recorded time, it is represented in the painting as well.
*Cauldron, besom, dragon, motorcycle, and cat are all personal symbols to include the family members and their belief systems and passions, and how they all make up a part of this family.
*Finally, Moon, Sky, Branches, Roots make the connection between the Heavens and the Earth, and therefore the eternal connection between the souls living on Earth and those of the Ancestors and all Loved Ones who have crossed over.
Added in May of 2016:
This was a very challenging image to bring to fruition, with special effort to include all of the varying requested symbols, resulting in a complex and unique painting. I was very happy to know that it was approved and appreciated by the family. Unfortunately, for reasons not divulged to me, they were not able to complete the commission transaction.
I take this as a learning experience, and the research I put into creating this image has not been wasted.
As artist and owner, I am opening it up for sale to the public since I have had several inquiries about it. Also, some of its individual symbols will earn their own place in my galleries. Ancora Imparo!
